Tracing A Part

Can't find a Part for Your Guitar on our Website?  Send us a tracing!  Here's How:

To Make a Tracing of Your Pickguard or Guitar Part

 1) Find a piece of paper that your item will fit onto.  Most electric guitar and bass pickguards are too large for a standard letter size sheet so you'll need to get a larger piece of paper.  Please don't try and put two pieces of paper together as this could affect your results.

 2) Place your part onto the paper facing upwards.

 3) You must ensure that your part will not move as you trace around it – a slight movement can cause an inaccuracy and your new part may not fit.  Be sure to do your tracing on a flat surface and keep your part pressed onto the paper all of the time until you have finished your tracing.

4) Use a sharpened pencil to draw around your item and keep the pencil at an angle so that it's as close to the edge of the part as possible.  It is very important that you do not create a large gap between the edge of your part and the pencil line.

 5) Draw around the outside of your part.

 6) Now draw around the inside of the Screw holes.

 7) Last of all, draw around the pickup hole(s).

 8) Finally mark your drawing with the following information:

  • Show which lines are beveled (sloped) sides of the part.

  • Show which holes are beveled (countersunk).

  • Measure each hole from the back of the part and write down the diameter next to it - you can do this with an accurate measurement tool (like a micrometer or vernier calipers) or with a drill bit.

  • The guitar brand, model, year, where the guitar was made, and the name of the part if you can.

  • Finally, check your tracing against your part and make sure that all of the lines are accurate.  The more information you can provide - the better!

Remember - we can only go from your tracing so if it's slightly inaccurate, your new part will be too!

Please send your tracing with your name, address, e-mail address and phone number to:

Greasy Groove Inc.
Box 20, Site 2, RR1
DeWinton, AB, T0L0X0
Canada

Please don't send your tracing through e-mail or fax as scanners and fax machines can warp the image.
